Running around eating in NYC is a complete adventure. The city has reopened more and more since the waning of the pandemic. Many restaurants did not make it; many did. New ones are beginning to appear. The restaurant map is constantly changing. This has always been true for NYC, but I think even more now.
I got an insight yesterday, as I was looking for where to eat lunch. I walked into a place that was cooking large batches of food of one dish. I am sure that the food was being kept hot enough to meet health requirements and codes; as I was in a seriously established building with many different food venues.
My revelation, was that cooked food that is sitting out for a while WILL NEVER BE AS FRESH OR TASTE AS GOOD as food that is specifically cooked for you, each individual meal.
I have a new food rule for myself. DO NOT EAT ANYWHERE WHERE THE FOOD IS SITTING OUT. ONLY EAT WHERE EACH DISH IS PREPARED INDIVIDUALLY AND FRESHLY.
