Here I am, “back in the saddle again.” Back in NYC, where the most fun culinary adventures can and does happen……..
The diversity of ethnic cuisines in this town cannot be matched anywhere in the world, in my opinion. Dining on these different cuisines, invites one to experience other cultures, customs, tastes and smells unfamiliar and unusual. All to the delight of our senses.
Since returning, I have been able to have a few culinary adventures. Excellent Korean Fried Chicken, seriously good Mochi Doughnuts, perfectly executed Dim Sum, fabulous Pizza and some pretty impressive desserts. I don’t waste any time!
I am continuously fascinated with the history of foods. Foods and spices have influenced history in significant ways. Wars have been fought, monies spent, and cultures impacted……so much has been shared and integrated over the centuries.
For example, dumplings are made in so many different cuisines. Chinese dumplings, Polish pierogis, Spanish empanadas, and more. There are records of where the original dumpling came from (I now have to google this…..and will get back to you).
And then there is the question of how these foods crossed into other countries and cuisines; and when. There are food historians who know the answers to all of these questions. It is nice to know that I am not the only one to ponder these thoughts and ideas.
Anyway, here I am rambling away. There will be follow up posts and photos on different restaurants, cuisines and dishes!
AND THE CULINARY ADVENTURES CONTINUE………
