Exploring and eating the foods of different ethnic cuisines is a wonderful way to broaden and expand your understanding of the world! It can open up your senses to new tastes and smells; even new sights. This exploration might even provide you with a delightfully unusual meal……
I am a “born and raised” New Yorker. I have lived in other parts of the country and have returned. Growing up in NYC, I was exposed to different cultures, religions; cuisines, even different dress codes. Can’t say that everyone liked each other, but for the most part we all interacted, and got along. This is the way that we New Yorkers, navigate and negotiate the NYC life.
Growing up in this environment was so enriching! I LOVED THE DIFFERENCES! I so enjoyed learning about the different holidays, rituals, calendars, dress AND CUISINES of everyone! I always wanted to try everyone’s food; especially if I had never eaten it before! I always asked for their recipes. I still do today!
I am a firm believer that food can, and should connect the world. We all eat. We all have to eat. This is the common denominator for everyone on our planet. Eating is the UNIVERSAL daily activity that keeps us alive.
I keep having this thought, that if we can share our foods with each other, we will feel more connected as humans. We can bond around this necessary intake of nutrients and sustenance that we all have to do! We can celebrate our differences through recipes and different cooking techniques!
The world is a big wonderful place. Let’s connect and share by exploring and eating each other’s foods……. What a great CULINARY ADVENTURE this would be!
Bon appetite!
